7 in 7: The Grand Finale stops At The Old Forge Tea Rooms

On Monday 28 September, Sir Kevin Sinfield and his 7 in 7 team will arrive in Pocklington as part of their seventh and final annual fundraising challenge in support of the MND community.

And we are very proud that The Old Forge Tea Rooms is an official stopping point along the route.

Kevin and the team are expected to arrive at The Old Forge at approximately 9.11am, taking a short break before setting off again at 9.40am on their way towards York.

We would love to see as many people as possible come along, bring the family and help us give Kevin and the team a fantastic Pocklington welcome.

What is 7 in 7: The Grand Finale?

This year’s challenge will see Kevin and his team complete an ultra marathon every day for seven days, beginning on Sunday 27 September at Hull KR and finishing at Old Trafford ahead of the Super League Grand Final on Saturday 3 October.

The route takes Kevin back through the Rugby League heartlands of the north of England, visiting the home grounds of all 12 English Super League clubs along the way.

Monday’s route starts at Shiptonthorpe before travelling through Pocklington, Wilberfoss and into York, eventually finishing at Bishopthorpe Palace.

It is an incredible physical challenge, but the reason behind it is far more important.

A friendship that started something remarkable

Much of Kevin’s fundraising has its roots in his friendship with his former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow.

Kevin and Rob first met as young rugby players and went on to spend many years playing alongside each other at Leeds Rhinos. Their friendship continued long after their playing careers ended.

In 2019, just two years after retiring from Rugby League, Rob was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

Rob chose to speak openly about living with MND and, together with his family, helped bring a much greater public understanding of the disease and the effect it has on individuals and their families.

Kevin wanted to do something to help his friend.

What started in 2020 with the idea of running seven marathons in seven days became something much bigger. That first challenge raised more than £1 million and began a series of extraordinary endurance events which Kevin has continued year after year.

Rob once described Kevin as being “like a brother” to him.

Perhaps one of the most memorable demonstrations of that friendship came at the first Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in 2023. Kevin pushed Rob around the course in a specially adapted wheelchair before lifting his friend from the chair and carrying him across the finish line.

It became an image that went far beyond Rugby League – and summed up what their friendship and the fundraising had come to represent.

Rob died in June 2024, aged just 41, after living with MND for four and a half years.

Kevin has continued the work they started together.

Making a real difference

The challenges haven’t simply raised awareness. They have helped provide millions of pounds to organisations supporting people living with MND, their families and those working to find better treatments.

One of the most visible examples is the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds.

The purpose-built centre opened in November 2025 following a £6.8 million fundraising campaign led by Leeds Hospitals Charity and heavily supported by Kevin, the Leeds Rhinos community and thousands of members of the public.

The centre brings specialist MND care, research, education and support together in one place, designed around the needs of patients and their families.

Kevin’s fundraising has also supported MND organisations across the UK and Ireland.

This year’s 7 in 7: The Grand Finale will support six charities:

  • MND Association

  • Leeds Hospitals Charity

  • My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

  • The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation

  • MND Scotland

  • Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association

The money raised helps these organisations continue their work supporting people living with MND and their families, alongside research and improving our understanding of the disease.

Come and support Kevin in Pocklington

This is the seventh and final annual challenge, which makes Kevin’s visit to Pocklington particularly special.

We have the opportunity to show our support right here at The Old Forge Tea Rooms.
